Police toady arrested a man in a case filed for allegedly raping a domestic help over the last one and a half years and torturing her in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar.
The alleged rapist, Chandan Dhar (45), was arrested from Jagatshi village early toady after a case was filed with Sreemangal Police Station last night, said Shamim or Rashid Talukdar, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.

Chandan is a resident of Station Road area in Sreemangal Municipality, the OC told our Moulvibazar correspondent.
He was sent to Moulvibazar jail by a court this afternoon, said the police official.
According to the case statement, a 17-year-old girl started working at Chandan’s house a year and a half ago. A few days later, Chandan raped her.
He also filmed her during the incident and threatened to leak the video if she told anyone, according to the case statement.
The other members of the family did not stop it, despite learning of everything, said the statement.
Talking to our correspondent, the girl alleged that yesterday morning, when her employer tried to rape her again, she resisted him. Later, he physically tortured her and confined her in a room after tying her hands and legs.
OC Shamim or Rashid Talukdar said police rescued the girl from the house on Station Road yesterday afternoon after locals heard the girl’s screams and informed the law enforcers.
Police also arrested Chandan’s mother and wife, who were made accused in the case, from the house.
Police found symptoms of torture on various parts of the girl’s body, said the OC.
Humayun Kabir, inspector (investigation) of Sreemangal Police Station, said the girl has been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for medical test.
